Nashville, TN (March 25, 2019) Les Butler of Family Music Group and Butler Music Group is pleased to announce the addition of award-winning Producer, Vic Clay to work with Les in the new Family Music Group “Quartets” Label. Butler states, “I would not be in this industry and I certainly wouldn’t be producing records if not for my friend and mentor, Vic Clay. He took me under his wing in the 70s and 80s. He has forgotten more than I know when it comes to producing great quartet records!” Clay states, “I’m excited to be working with my long-time friend, Les Butler. I’ve been blessed to work with some of the best quartets in the history of Southern Gospel music. And I’m looking forward to working with the next generation of great quartets.”
Butler states, “speaking of one of the best new quartets in the business today, in my opinion, it is the GloryWay Quartet from Ohio. We are excited that GloryWay will be the first quartet signed to our new FMG Quartets label and the first production with Vic and myself at the helm. Last year they won the Diamond Award as the best new quartet in Gospel Music and I believe the fans got it right!”
Justin Crank of GloryWay states, “this is a dream come true. We are already excited to head into the studio with Les. But, when he said we were adding Vic Clay to our production, we were at a loss for words. We are huge fans of Vic and the albums he produced for the Cathedral Quartet!”
Vic has committed to producing a couple of quartet records with me this year. If you are a quartet, and would like to be considered for this once in a lifetime opportunity, please email les@butlermusicgroup.com or call 615-218-0517.
VIC’S BIO
Vic was born in Lamar, CO. He grew up playing music with his dad in the southeastern area of Colorado. Vic began hanging out at the local radio station, and soon was a regular on the air. He had a passion for the great talents of Chet Atkins, Lefty Frizzell, Hank Snow, Hank Thompson, and many other pioneers of country music.
After serving in the army, Vic located to Akron Ohio. A short time later, he went to work for the ministry of Rex Humbard, playing guitar both at the Cathedral of Tomorrow, and on the road when Rex would travel. Those years would take him literally around the world.
During his time at the Cathedral of Tomorrow, Vic's studio experience and production skills were sharpened. Early in his tenure there, He traveled with The Weatherford's, and later, with the Cathedral Quartet. Becoming comfortable in the studio and helping clients through the recording process was a natural 'next step' for Vic. He began producing albums for the Cathedrals. Just two of the many classics that came from their collaboration are "Wedding Music" & "Romans 8:28". Their great partnership brought many more opportunities for Vic to utilize his talents. During his years in Akron, he worked with not only The Humbard Singers, The Weatherford's, and The Cathedral Quartet, but also the likes of Stuart Hamblin, and the great Mahalia Jackson.
After leaving the Cathedral of Tomorrow, Vic relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio where he became a partner in the well-known Artist's Recording Studio. Many of southern Gospel's greatest recordings came out of that studio and era. Vic contributed to those recordings by producing J.D. Sumner & The Stamps, Teddy Huffam, The Florida Boys, The Cathedrals, The Hoppers, and countless others. Over the years he has earned many Dove Award nominations for his production work.
In 1985, Vic decided it was time to move to Nashville. He was warmly welcomed as a studio musician & producer and began utilizing the amazing talent pool of musicians who make Nashville their home.
After becoming a widower in 1990, Vic met Toni Jolene Holcomb, and the two were married in 1993. She is also a veteran in the music business. Their collaborative efforts earned them both Dove Award nominations for producing two "Album of the Year" contenders working with the legendary George Younce. They produced three solo projects for George, entitled "I Believe" "That Says It All" and the classic hymn project, "Day By Day".
